'Blazing' Beta Eta Chapter

Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter has sponsored two undergraduate chapters at the University of Cincinnati. Iota Chapter established the now inactive Sigma Alpha Chapter in 1939.  Beta Eta Chapter was chartered in 1975.

Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter began activities to organize campus chapter but lacked five (5) women to apply for a charter.  Several undergraduate women, Denise Rumph, Pamela Rushing Thomas and Winona Battle Oliver began attending Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter meetings.  On January 11, 1975, Denise and Winona became Associate members of Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter.  Pamela became a member in March, 1975.

These three members worked to recruit members, forming an Archonian Club of 10 members.  On April 12, 1975, a charter was issued in the name of Beta Eta Chapter.  Charter members were: Pamela Kelly, Debbie Tribble, Lonita Ware, Deborah Hill and Vera Williams Derkson.

Since its chartering, over 140 women have become members of the Sorority through Beta Eta Chapter. Throughout the years, Beta Eta has been the recipient of several University of Cincinnati awards and recognitions including, the Sorority with the Highest GPA and the Most Innovated Intake Presentation.   Beta Eta has won Great Lakes Region and State of Ohio awards and honors also.

Many Beta Eta graduates have transferred their membership to Beta Zeta Zeta upon graduation and held leadership positions in the graduate chapter.  Several have been the Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter president or held other offices.  L. Veronica Nelson and Anjylla Y. Foster, Ph.D were both elected International Third Vice-Presidents. Beta Eta graduate, Crystal R. Rivers Ph.D, organized and founded the Beta Zeta Zeta Education Foundation.
